At TECTERRA, we believe that innovation is the cornerstone of progress. This belief drives our commitment to fostering growth in the geomatics and geospatial sectors, which are crucial to addressing the complex challenges of our modern world. As part of this commitment, we are proud to have invested in the University of Lethbridge’s Institute for Geospatial Inquiry, Instruction, and Innovation (i4GEO).
Formally established in January 2024, i4GEO has quickly emerged as a beacon of excellence in the field of geomatics. Our funding has empowered the Institute to expand its reach and elevate its programmatic offerings, creating a robust pipeline for the next generation of geomatic and geospatial experts.
Building Bridges Between Academia and Industry
A key aspect of i4GEO’s success lies in its ability to forge meaningful partnerships with industry leaders. By bridging the gap between academia and the professional world, the Institute is expanding its influence and providing students with valuable connections that will serve them throughout their careers. At the 2024 Canadian Symposium on Remote Sensing (CSRS) in Halifax, i4GEO made its presence felt by hosting a booth and engaging with leading experts in the field.
This effort has already borne fruit, as i4GEO will partner with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) and the Canadian Remote Sensing Society (CRSS-SCT) to host the 2025 CSRS. This event will bring together key stakeholders from across the country to discuss the latest innovations in remote sensing. This field is increasingly critical to addressing global challenges like climate change and food security.
Innovative Program Development
At TECTERRA, we understand that staying ahead of the curve requires constant adaptation and innovation. We are particularly excited about i4GEO’s commitment to developing unique academic programs. In April, the Institute launched the first session of its graduate mini-series focused on using geospatial technology to understand our changing mountain environments. This series is just one example of how i4GEO pushes traditional education’s boundaries to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving field.
A Vision for the Future
Our investment in the University of Lethbridge’s i4GEO Institute is more than just financial support—it’s a commitment to the future of geomatics. As the Institute continues to grow and evolve, we look forward to seeing the impact that its students, faculty, and partners will have on the world. Together, we are building a foundation for innovation that will shape the future of technology, science, and society.
